Google layout algorithm

But few weeks ago, they launched an algorithmic change that looks at the layout of a webpage and the amount of content visitors see on the page once they click on a search result. If you click on a website and the part of the website you see first either doesn’t have a lot of visible content above-the-fold or dedicates a large fraction of the site’s initial screen real estate to ads, that’s not a very good experience for users. It’s highly unlikely that such sites would rank higher.

Does Google uses meta keyword tag


Meta keywords tag allows you to list keywords and keyphrases that you have targeted for the page separated by comma. Earlier people used to stuff keywords and Keyphrases in meta keyword tag in order to rank their site higher. They would just copy the keyword tag of their competitors and hope their site would outrank the competitors.


Lets say there are two website owners, A and Bob. A runs a company called ABC and B runs XYZ. While looking at B’s site, A notices that B has copied some of the Keywords that A uses in meta “keywords” tag. Would it mean B’s website comes higher than A’s ? What does Google has to say about this ?

 

For Google, it doesn’t matter as Google doesn’t uses this tag in search ranking. Test sitemap in Webmaster Tools

What are Sitemaps ?

 

Sitemaps are a way to tell Google about pages on your site that Google might not otherwise discover. In its simplest terms, a XML Sitemap—usually called Sitemap, with a capital S—is a list of the pages on your website. Creating and submitting a Sitemap helps make sure that Google knows about all the pages on your site, including URLs that may not be discoverable by Google’s normal crawling process.

Create your Sitemap file using various sitemap generator tools. Upload the sitemap.xml file to the root directory of your website. Once you have your Sitemap files ready and available on your server, all that’s left is making sure that the search engines can find them.


You can Submit Sitemap to Google in Google Webmaster Tools. But before that, the site must be added and verified in Webmaster Tools.

Recently, Google added a feature to Google Webmaster Tools that allows you to test your sitemap files before submitting them to Google.

 

Google added this new feature in response to complaints that Webmaster had no way to know right away if the sitemaps they added were valid. With this feature, Webmasters can create the sitemaps and test them in Google Webmaster Tools.

 

How to test Sitemaps.

 

1. Login to Google Webmaster Tools.

 

2. Click on Site Configuration and then on Sitemaps.

 

3. At the top right, there is an “Add/Test Sitemap” button.

 

4. Enter the URL, click submit and Google will begin testing the sitemap file immediately.

Bounce rate and Exit rate


If you are using Google Analytics, you must have noticed two SEO metrics – Bounce rate and Exit rate.

Bounce means a visitor comes to your site and leaves without clicking on any other page of your website. And Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page visits i.e. visits in which the person left your site from the entrance page. By looking at bounce rate, you can determine how well your landing pages are performing as compared to visitor expectations. A high bounce rate means the content is not appealing enough for the visitor.

 

Exit Rate is the percentage of visitors that leave your site from a given page based on the number of visits to that page . Its quite possible that the visitor who exits might have visited other pages on your site, but just exited on a specific page.

Overview of Google Pagerank

Google considers each links to be other site as a vote. In addition, it considers that some votes are more important than others. PageRank is Google’s system of counting link votes and determining which pages are most important based on them.

PageRank may have distinguished Google as a search engine when it was founded in 1998, Google had a lot of opportunity to augment and refine our ranking systems over the last decade. PageRank is no longer—if it ever was—the be-all and end-all of ranking.
