Google webmaster central nicely sums up the relevency part for link building.

“Your site’s ranking in Google search results is partly based on analysis of those sites that link to you. The quantity, quality, and relevance of links count towards your rating. The sites that link to you can provide context about the subject matter of your site, and can indicate its quality and popularity. However, some webmasters engage in link exchange schemes and build partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking, disregarding the quality of the links, the sources, and the long-term impact it will have on their sites. This is in violation of Google’s webmaster guidelines and can negatively impact your site’s ranking in search results.

It is not only the number of links you have pointing to your site that matters, but also the quality and relevance of those links.”

Lets say your home page can be accesses at -

http://www.example.com/

http://example.com/

People will find the same information at above two url’s. They won’t know the difference, right ? But search engines will. Googlebot sees the above two URLs as two different pages on the web.

Search engines can index both www and non www versions of your domain . Therefore, it’s best for SEO purposes to stick with one version of your domain and make sure all backlinks point to that version. The www version is recommended because most sites will link to you using that version anyway.

Once you have decided your preferred version ( www or non www ), you should implement 301 permanent redirects at the server end to ensure your preferred version is served no matter which version is typed in. You can also set your preferred domain within Google Webmaster Tools.

As far as ranking is concerned, there is no such preference from any search engine. The search engines will rank whichever URL has the highest number of quality links pointing to it.

Following are some tips for creating a Google-friendly site…

1. Give visitors the information they’re looking for

Provide high-quality content on your pages, especially your homepage. This is the single most important thing to do. If your pages contain useful information, their content will attract many visitors and entice webmasters to link to your site. In creating a helpful, information-rich site, write pages that clearly and accurately describe your topic.

2. Make sure that other sites link to yours

Links help Google crawlers find your site and can give your site greater visibility in our search results. Keep in mind that Google algorithms can distinguish natural links from unnatural links. Natural links to your site develop as part of the dynamic nature of the web when other sites find your content valuable and think it would be helpful for their visitors. Unnatural links to your site are placed there specifically to make your site look more popular to search engines.

3. Make your site easily accessible

Build your site with a logical link structure. Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link.

Use a text browser, such as Lynx, to examine your site. Most spiders see your site much as Lynx would.

Inbound links or Incoming links, are external sites linking to your site. For example, site A linking to site B, is an example of incoming link or inbound link to site B.

In the early days of web, search engines used to index web pages based on the number of keyword occurrences within a particular web page. This opened the field for spammers who started manipulating search engines by stuffing keywords into title and meta tags. Search engines being one step ahead of spammers found a way around this by putting more emphasis on off page factors like quality and quantity links to a site.

Why are links important ?

Links are, and will continue to remain an important ingredient in Google’s algorithm for ranking sites. This is because they are one of the positive signals to Google about your site’s importance.

This is what Google had to say -

“Your site’s ranking in Google search results is partly based on analysis of those sites that link to you. The quantity, quality, and relevance of links count towards your rating. The sites that link to you can provide context about the subject matter of your site, and can indicate its quality and popularity”

Different Types of links -

One way links – The example given above – site A linking to site B, is an example of one way links – one way link for site B.

Reciprocal links – If site B also links back to site A, then this is an example of reciprocal link.

Three way links – This involves 3 websites A, B and C. In this type of link scheme, site A links to site B, site B links to site C and site C links to site A. Thus each site recieves one way link without linking to each other.

Statistics say it all: 85% of internet users access search engines to find product and service information. 90% of users do not go beyond the first results page.

Successful SEO helps a site gain visibility in search engines and visibility translates into sales. An seo company talking only about sales is not doing justice to your seo campaign. SEO is not just about sales, it’s about targetted traffic. For this, you need to know what your potential or existing customers are searching. Ultraseo- seo company in india will guide you at every step in optimizing your website through ethical seo techinques.

We say ethical, because SEO is not just tricking the search engines into giving higher rankings. SEO is about relevancy – relevancy in the eyes of search engines. Be wary of any SEO company that guarantees number one rankings in google. Even google – the no. 1 search engine clearly states in its guidelines for webmasters that no one can guarantee no.1 ranking. This just goes to prove that seo requires a sound understanding of how search engines work and then applying those techinques to increase the online visibility of a site.

If any SEO company does mention this, there are 3 possible reasons.

1. Either they are using black hat SEO – these are the SEO techinques that can quickly get you banned in search engines.

2. The keywords they are targetting are not relevant to your business. For example, name of your company.

3. They are talking about paid listings-which is not organic seo.

Our company does give gurantee – but of a different kind. The gurantee is regarding our SEO services – prompt, affordable and professional.
